Because… Ideas are problem solvers in the highest order. If you don’t believe me then I guess you were thinking that ideas were purely original thoughts. But they aren’t. Ideas are problem solvers. And most of the time new ideas are simply the marriage of two other pre-existant ideas. Let me explain. Ideas aren’t just pulled out of thin air or brought to the front of your mind for no apparent reason. Ideas are generated as a result of a conscious thought, plus perhaps some research, that is then left to the unconscious mind to ‘work on’. Ideas are quite often answers to difficult questions, such as:
When we have a problem to solve, ideas are the answers. We may at first ponder and muse, read a few books, collaborate with others, or head straight to a mentor - but at the end of the day the process for great ideas is always the same. Pose the question, perform some investigation, set the problem aside. When we set the problem aside our unconscious gets to work. Eventually new ideas or creative solutions arrive in our conscious logical brains. But they are rarely ready to go. Idea infants need time, exposure, and collaboration before they are either used, earned a fortune from, be made into a book or painted on walls.
