The Habit of Creativity Psychological studies show that creativity is a habit just like all other habits. It only stands to reason then that coming up with ideas is also a habit due to the fact that much of idea generation lies in the knowledge of creativity. Please notice that I did not say being creative. I said knowledge of creativity. Hopefully this let’s you off the hook and empowers you. You do not need to be a genius or artist to be creative. Actually one great way to be an Idea Master is to be an imitator. Imitation is one of the 6 I’s of the creativity cycle. This is not about copy-catting. This more about modeling another’s behaviour. Let me explain it this way, learn the habits of those who have an endless flow of ideas and you’ll easily adapt the habit as one of your own. So, how do you develop a creative mind and become idea prone? Here’s a very rudimentary example that you may like to practice with… Word Association Games We’ll start with a theme, let’s say ‘horses’ (because that’s what’s on my mind right now). As soon as I see the word horses I come up with many other thought streams (as I’m sure you do). “riding, grooming, gait, canter, trot, pet, pony, saddle, nuzzle, paint, mustang, stallion…” You might have had many of the same as mine. Those word associations are nothing more than a marketer’s toolbox of potential keywords. What I do next with those keywords is where being idea prone comes into play. This could potentially lead me to my next venue for ebook income! I usually start sweating at the palms at this point as I do a little online research to come up with a product idea that solves the horse market’s problem. But that’s not all…I also will need to know and consider the other 5 I’s, well only 4 really because the last I in the creative cycle is Idea Generation and Development. If you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about mark off the first week of July. That when Joe and I will be releasing our new book on being idea prone! Filed under: Recent Posts Comments:
